5 out of 5 stars THE BEST WORKOUT DEVICE FOR PRICE   September 20, 2007
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

I Have owned and used a Bullworker since I was 18 in 1971. I am now 54 and look great for my age. I owe a lot of that to this device.
I was in the U.S. Army for 22 years and took one everywhere I was stationed. It's compact shape made it easy to pack in a duffle bag.
Unlike expensive weight sets and other home gyms, you are working against your own body's strength. You can't "set the bar to high" and hurt or over strain yourself if you follow the instructions.
It is easy to use. Just follow the wall chart, and get into comfortable clothes and you can workout in your living room, hotel room, or barracks room. Over time you will memorize the exercises and not need the chart. No need to go to a gym and wait for a turn on a machine, with other sweaty people, and some annoying music being blasted in the background.
More advanced boby builders might not find this a complete effective workout device. When I was younger I supplemented my workouts with the Bullworker before running or lifting. Now, I basically just use it alone. For those who want to strengthen and tone with a short workout, the Bullworker is very effective.
I highly endorse this product. Get a Bullworker before you spend 10 times more on a Bowflex or other home gyms. Use it regularly and you will see results.

5 out of 5 stars Great fitness tool, but you have to stick to it   July 3, 2007

This thing is great, in about 25 minutes the X-5 will give you a good workout that will have you sweating and get your heart going. I use it 4-5 days during the week and have seen impressive results. Soft areas have firmed up, my posture is improved, I am stronger, and I feel better.

After a typical workout my body feels like I have lightly lifted weights. I prefer less strenuous workouts done more often and this is perfect, but during weeks when I cannot work out as often as I would like the X-5 is able to give a very intense workout to make up for it.

The X-5 is well built and feels like it will last for years. It is also small enough to keep under your couch and I take with me on the road for exercise whren I have to travel for work. I have not tried, but it is probably too long to carry on to an airplane.

As a comparision this item is like using a pair of dumbells, it gives good results, but requires disciplined use which some people may find motivation for hard to find. This item is not hype, it really works, but it requires effort by the user.

5 out of 5 stars excellent if you stick at it.   June 21, 2007

i've now been using the bullworker now for 6 months, and i'm down from 210lbs to 186lbs from just over a year ago, and in much better shape.

read the instructions. DO NOT OVER-EXERCISE with the bullworker for the first month. you WILL get very sore joints. ignoring this advice can result in pain. respect your body and think about what you are actually doing to your body. it is not a normal physical workout routine, and you just have to learn how to workout differently. your first month is important. change your diet, increase your activity levels, follow the instructions and it will set you up for what follows.

you need to put in 3 workouts a week, preferably 4, week in, week out, and it is essential that you get motivated in exercising regularly by either cycling or swimming, etc. in addition to your workouts. it's simple, you get active, you WILL get impressive results.

you will also find your consumption of water skyrocketing :)

cut back on your fats & sugars and don't be a martyr killing yourself thinking you can get abs in just a few minutes a day just because some smiling idiots on a tv ad say you can...

...because you can't. i'm still a good 4-6 weeks away from a six-pack, and that's because guys, you will have to lose the fat from absolutely everywhere else on your body first before it all disappears from your lower abs. 8-10% body fat. that's a very low figure. it's very hard to achieve if you're 35+ (i'm 45), and means you are looking very lean!

you absolutely CANNOT have great abs and be fat anywhere else. you can thank evolution for this. it's where the male body stores excess fat, and where the body turns to when we go long periods without food (not a problem for the obese).

like anything else worthwhile, there are no quick fixes. those calories are a whole lot easier to put into your system than to work off.

i'll update this when i do FINALLY get my six-pack.

p.s. i'm not obsessed with the whole body-culture thing or anything, but i do want to be healthy, & feel good (my energy levels are much higher), and who doesn't want to see a better image when they look in the mirror?

stick with it, stick with it, stick with it.

1 out of 5 stars Painful, futile   June 7, 2007

I used this faithfully for a month and experienced severe soreness near my right elbow, VERY severe. (Probably tendonitis.) This is a piece of junk. A bodyweight routine of push-ups, crunches, lunges, jumping jacks, etc., got me much better results, and without having to spend a C-note on a useless item.

5 out of 5 stars Improves on the older models   May 20, 2007

I had my first Bullworker in the '70s -- the Bullworker 2 with green handles, two telescoping tubes, cables, and no meter. It's still with me and is still doing fine. I got one of these so that there would be more to go around in my family.

This model, in effect, has three tubes: two "handles" and a center tube. The "handles" have flanges that prevent slipping when we do moves grasping the tubes.

Instead of single cables on each side of the tube, this model has nylon straps that double by going around pulley mechanisms at each end. Engaging two straps at a time is equivalent to the cables of other models. But we have the option of using only one strap at a time, or one strap one side, two on the other, thus getting varied ranges of motion, as well as varied resistances. However, using one strap at a time requires adjustments so the the movement remains symmetrical. There's a tendency for the single strap pull to be unevenly distributed on the pulleys. Pulling on the nylon straps is "less painful" than pulling on the cables, but this may be a personal matter.

There's a meter in the center tube with a plastic ring moving along it to indicate how far the tubes were moved. However, the movement of each handle is not always equal, so the reading may not be accurate. It would have been better if there were two such rings. I do not think this is significant because after a time, we don't get to bother with these "measurements."

While the Bullworkers are known for isometric exercises, they are not limited to such. The exercise charts also show that we can adapt it for circulation exercises, endurance exercises, and so on. It's really one of the best overall exercise gadgets around and I think it should be more popular.

In addition to the Bullworker 2 and this Bullworker X5, I also have the Steel Bow and the Model 28. Each would have their own features, but I would say that this X5 has the smoothest movement among the models I have, and is the most versatile (it's the only one with double nylon straps). But I would say that it would not be bad to have all these models, as I do. :)
