I Just Purchased This Item June 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just purchased this item and, it felt awkward for the first...60 seconds. After that, I was like a cat to catnip. I had been having pain in my hips and lower back all weekend. It bothered me all through church. Then, on father's day a couple of days ago--I purchased this for myself--even though I'm not a dad--I'm a mom! I have to say that my pain was gone--I'm not joking. My hips are better. I think when we're in pain our body keeps constricting and consticting until our hips/joints/back are one tied-up knot. Well, the foam roller undid those knots--ALREADY. I can tell if I did that everyday, I would just blossom. The video is VERY helpful, otherwise, I wouldn't know what to do with the roller--not really. However, it's frustrating because each body part section starts with the person already in "position". By the time you have gotten your body to be in the same body position for that body part, she's already half-way through the demonstration! So when it starts each part, you have to pause it and try to mimic how she got in that position, then watch how she does it and pause it and do it, then keep it paused while you do the same thing on the other side of the body (i.e., left leg, then right leg). Don't let that deter you from getting this life changing item!! It's just that...I wish you could play it like a regular dvd and have it go through all the parts with you as if you were there, instead of 60 seconds for each body part. You have to try to remember how to do it on your own, and I'm not going to remember all that, unless I write it down. ...if I could find that dvd somewhere that's formatted like a real, "live" exercise video/dvd...I would get it in a heartbeat. Other than that inconvenience, it is AMAZING. Matter of fact, I think I'll go try it again right now! My pain is gone...now I can just go get limber and massaged!
nice addition to regular workouts April 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What you see is exactly what you get--it's a piece of foam. That being said, this roller is a positive addition to your recovery period. Basically, it massages your muscles as you roll on it. The process isn't always comfortable in the beginning, but eventually it starts to feel excellent.
Great until it loses its shape April 3, 2008 My roller worked out some major kinks that even a massage therapist could not get rid of. Sadly, however, it lost its shape after about 20 uses. (I weigh 120)
An effective tool to enhance your flexibility March 31, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am a personal trainer that has been using this exact foam roll with my clients for nearly one year. Foam rolling, or Self-myofacial release (SMR), is a method that has been researched and used for many years to elminate adhesions (knots) in muscle tissue. It is a staple in all of my client's workouts, especially my own. I train at least 25 sessions per week and have only had to replace the roller twice do to warping and softening of the foam (this happens to all of them eventually). Be sure to pick this one up since it comes with a great DVD and is a bright color so you don't misplace it in the gym.
Cheaper than a massuese December 10, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
After reading several articles on bodybuilding forums as to the many benefits of foam rolling for recovery and tissue health, I finally found one of these rollers at a Target store nearby.
I had been suffering from severe delayed onset muscle soreness in my legs and lower back after a heavy weightlifting session. After watching the short DVD, I started rolling out small sections...as much as I could stand. The pain is very intense on tight muscles; but the payoff is immediate. As soon as you finish rolling a section, you can feel the reduced stress and tension in the muscle. My legs normally hurt for a full 4 days after a leg workout, and with the use of this product, I was done hurting in 2 days.
