Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
Elliptical trainers provide an effective cardiovascular workout that combines upper and lower body flexibility and coordination into one impact-free motion. By emulating the natural motion of your foot while supporting your heel throughout the stride, elliptical trainers are much easier on your knees and joints. In addition to feeling more natural while working out, regular use on ellipticals will increase heart and lung capacity while improving your health (and burning calories at the same time).

In addition to accommodating a wide variety of users with its lengthened 18 inch/46 centimeter stride, the Schwinn 418 Elliptical Trainer also incorporates an articulating footplate, which follows the natural motion of your foot and supports your heel throughout the entire stride motion. Additional features of Schwinn's 418 Elliptical Trainer include a grip heart-rate monitoring and a high-inertia drive system using an oversized flywheel and Poly V-belt. The quiet magnetic resistance Eddy Current Brake provides a smooth ride. The more than ten workout programs include: rolling, valley, fat burn, ramp, plateau, intervals, mountain, heart rate, and manual mode. An LCD display shows time, speed, distance, revolutions per minute, resistance level, calories and calories per hour, load, and heart rate and course profile.

About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

5 out of 5 stars Great Elliptical!   August 20, 2008
I was hesitant to buy such an expensive product online, but it has worked out great. The shipping was extremely fast. I ordered it on a Friday with Monday as a holiday and received it late that week. (Within a week) I could be close to the warehouse, but it was quick. The deliver guy was nice and brought it into my house. With free shipping, you really can't beat that. It did take a little bit to put together, but overall it was easy to do. (I'm also a lego kid and enjoy this type of thing.) The product is wonderful as well. It took me awhile to find the AC adapter outlet (front bottom of the unit), but after that I haven't needed batteries. I believe it works great and gives me a good workout. It definitely puts me out of breath that I can't do it much longer than 20 minutes (yet!). Great delivery, great product, great price! Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars Schwinn 418 Elliptical Trainer   August 15, 2008
This machine was very easy to put together, I did it myself. It is a nice machine (even for people that are over 6' like me)and very sturdy. It gives you a great overall work out even if you only have a few minutes. I have knee and hip problems and this machine is smooth once you figure out not to fight it. This was only the 3 time I was on one, the others were ok if you were shorter, and were not looking for a quality machine. This one here was a definate winner. I use it every day, instead of running out side or on a treadmill, it is much easier on the joints. If you are thinking of buying and elliptical this is the one to purchase, great price, quality, and nice set of work*outs to choose from. Don't hesistate, you wont regret it.

4 out of 5 stars Schwinn 418 Elliptical Trainer   August 6, 2008
Easy to put together.
The works you get from it is GREAT. Smooth stride.
There no backlite to see the display which would have been nice but it a great machine.

4 out of 5 stars Good for the price   August 5, 2008
This elliptical appears to be the cheapest one in the market with a significant number of features. After a first month of use, it seems to be doing well. From time to time I hear some noise from the pedals and the heart rate monitor does not seem to be accurate. Despite these shortcomings, I believe I got a good deal for the price I paid.

5 out of 5 stars Great Elliptical - would gladly purchase again   July 22, 2008
I did a lot of research on ellipticals before deciding on this Schwinn option from Amazon. The price and free delivery really put it over the top. There were no problems with installation. All the parts were in the box (except the water bottle) and everything went together as described. The product is very sturdy - no rocking or side to side action. My wife and I have both been using it with no issues. Great elliptical trainer for a home gym.
