The blade guard is a a piece of plastic that is supposed to slide to cover the blade when opening to insert a pill but it binds and then it is hard to open and is just plain annoying. I (try and) do a months supply for my wife whose hands shake so that if I am out of town she doens't need to do it her self. Maybe it gets jammed trying to do too many too fast. I removed the blade guard in order to get the job done, but now the kids can't help out. Also, it doesn't give the cleanest break and often one piece is noticeably larger than another, which with a small pill does concern me about the actual size of the dose.

I have had my cutter for a few years now. I like very much the nonskid/soft pad under the pill - keeps the things from skittering away when the blade hits them (thus avoiding beveled cuts). The blade guard has probably kept me from slashing my fingers a few times, too.
My only complaint (and who can really complain about at item this cheap but I'll say it anyway) is that after a few years, the plastic blade guard starts to get stiff and stop sliding, and the cutter becomes very hard to close.

I have a bunch of small pills that need cut in 1/2's & 1/4's. This pill cutter is great for that. I also have a large, thick pill that I need cut in 1/2's that I prefer a different pill cutter for. This one will cut large pills, but it is a little cumbersome.

It handles splitting oblong uneven pills fairly well. not exact but i doubt there is a much better product out there. If your pill is a strange shape and under 150mg it wont be an exact cut. For larger pills this seems like it would work very well. The Rubber pill grips are an excellent feature.

This product works much much better than I had expected. It has a super sharp blade which is enclosed in a sheath while it is open. Place the tablet on the device, close the lid and the sheath retracts and very neatly cuts the tablet.
It is a bit like a guillotine, and is actually fun to use!
There is a reservoir or well just below the cutting surface (it's blue in the photos, as is the cutting area) so cut tablets can fall into the well. You can cut around 12-15 tablets before emptying the cut tablets from the reservoir back into the pill bottle.
Highly recommended. I've been using mine for around 2-3 years and the hinge is beginning to get a bit sticky, so I ordered 3 more to have in reserve...it is that good and valuable!
No pill segments flying on the floor, and absolutely no chance of a cut finger.
Try it, you will not be disappointed!
