About Mio The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer's advice. Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world's first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products. What's in the Box? Mio Fit heart rate watch, instructions, warranty Manufacturer's Warranty One year

Not worth it November 29, 2007 Impossible to use while running.. You'll have your fingers on it forever trying for it to read your pulse... probably would work for a less strenious activity.
Just Fine September 26, 2007 Owned this watch for almost 4 years now. I bike 5 days a week w/ it. Works fine for what I wanted and as I expected. It does eat batteries - just over 1 per year. Had to remove the battery pressure mounting spring to correct a malfunction after the second year (as another reviewer noted also). Works best when the battery is fresh - harder to get a reading and the range readout randomly gets flaky as the battery ages/weakens. It works better when the arm it's worn on is not under tension (more, but not completely, relaxed). Works better when the skin under the back plate is moist w/ sweat. Works better when the fingers touched to it are moist (not wet!) w/ sweat. Love the calorie burn function (the sole reason I bought the watch - I'm going to exercise for whatever length of time I choose at whatever intensity I feel like that day - so I don't care too much about the other functions. I refuse to wear a chest strap. What would be the point?!... I'd use strapping on a chest monitor as a reason not to even exercise - way too much hassle - never get ANY exercise monitoring if I had to strap one on - so in my case, this watch is great.
Watch Only Good as a Watch September 24, 2007 I thought that getting a heart rate with just wearing a watch sounded like a great idea. This watch was not at all accurate. It also reads your heart rate when it feels like it-not quickly. Guess I'll go back to wearing the belt around my chest.
Bulkier than it looks September 24, 2007 I thought this watch would be OK for my wife, and it did not look that big in the picture. So, I bought it and it was definetely bigger than I expected it to be. The Heart Rate function works OK, but you have to be standing and wait for a while to come up, so, if you exercise at fast rates (running, biking) this is not a good solution. It works well for those who walk or hike.
I ended up giving it to my mom. She walks and does not mind the large size of the watch.
Works well within its limitations September 2, 2007 I have the MIO Sport, which is no longer in production.
It has helped me get into a heart rate zone more optimum for losing weight and I seem to be losing at a faster rate than before.
To get a heart rate while riding a bicycle my arm must be relaxed. The reading comes fairly quickly while pedaling if I lick my fingertips before touching the buttons.
After a month of use I suddenly got no heart rate readings. Then I got false readings in the 200 bpm range. I experimented and determined the battery holder was pressing too hard on the thin white plastic film inside the back of the watch. I cut a disc of paper and inserted it between the back and the battery holder. The watch works perfectly again.
I do not need to know my heart rate instantaneously. I do not need to know precisely when I fall a bit out of range on either the high or the low side. The MIO works fine for me. I got it for a ridiculously low price at a local discount store. I think it is great.
