I love this thing. I've only had it a week, and it's the only one I've had so I can't compare it to others, but it feels great. It does hurt in spots, but feels like a deep tissue massage. It's great on the upper back/shoulders and legs. It will take time to evaluate the stretching and flexibility aspect, but it makes sense to me. Similer to a rolling pin rolling out dough. You tube has demo's.
Mine cost $23, I think. Try one.

This foam roll gets the job done at first, but after frequent use the foam breaks down and the roll becomes indented in areas where repeated pressure is applied. A better choice is the EVA (extra dense) kind, which will hold up much better over time.

Hugger Mugger Foam Roller March 19, 2007
I love this body roller! The foam is dense and holds up to my body weight perfectly. The fabric cover is a great idea! When it gets dirty, I just take it off and throw it in the washer. It is light weight and easy to carry into the gym or use in any room of the house. It is a great massager for all body parts, I love to roll out watching TV in the evening time. It it also a great item for improving balance and strengthening abs. There is a lot you can do with this roller. For the price ($11.95) it is hard to beat! I definitely recommend this product.
