 Too Cute July 13, 2008
We couldn't believe it when my 5 year old neice said that all she wanted was a weight bench for her birthday... She was so excited when we brought it in for her party! It was a big hit with all the kids, too.
It's really very cute, even if it was a bit expensive. If ya can get someone to go in on it with you, then definitly worth it if it's that toy that your child is asking for.

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter who loves to work out with me. And, right off the bat, I want to add that she does this for fun. I realize that 4 year old kids shouldn't have to work out with weights, but she wants to do what I do, so she is often next to me using 1 lb weights and attempting the same exercises I might be doing.
This set was a big surprise. I love it! And, best of all, she loves it! It is very easy to put together-- took about 10 or 15 minutes total, and it comes with everything you will need including a couple of wrenches and an allen wrench. The frame is sturdy metal with foam pads covering, and there are no sharp edges.
The bench is a bit deceiving, however-- it does look like it may be adjustable but, unfortunately, it is not. Still, it has a slight incline, and my daughter isn't concerned about whether the bench can adjust or not.
The weights are made of very dense foam. I expected them to have no weight-- or at least an insignificant amount of weight, but indeed they are more substantial than they appear. The largest weight might be about a pound, but possibly less. However, these are definitely weights-- not pretend weights, but they are very very light and will do no damage. The barbell is sturdy, too, and also must weigh about pound. As you can see, she can also do Leg Extensions and Leg Curls on this little bench! And, she can add weights as she sees fit.
Obviously, she uses a lot of momentum to exercise on this bench, rather than train her muscles, but the fun part for her is doing this all with me, her mom! And, it's nice, because when we'd be working out together in the past, I always took the bench and left her with the floor or the bench nobody really wanted to use. Now, she has her own bench (very comfy looking and thickly padded), and she is so very happy.
The set comes with everything here, but you may want to pick up 1 lb dumbbells in addition to this.
Since she received this a few days ago (I also will be reviewing a few of the other First Fitness products), she has spent an awful lot of time in our gym-- even when nobody else is using it. And, when I got some time in there the other day when she was busy with my older children, she was extremely unhappy she missed being there with me.
This is a wonderful product and we're all extremely happy with this purchase!
