4 out of 5 stars weight bar   August 30, 2008
This bar was purchased for my son. He enjoys using it with the other weight lifting items I have purchased through Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars Exactly as promised   January 6, 2008
The bar is exactly what it's supposed to be. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it came wrapped up in so much shrink wrap and tape that getting it ready for use was a bit of a chore. I required a knife to get all the plastic wrap off, which led me to accidentally slice the rubber washers at the bar ends - it's not a big deal at all, but it could have been easier. Otherwise I'm very happy with this bar.

5 out of 5 stars The straight barbell beats the E-Z curl barbell   November 7, 2005

I would recommend getting a pair of boxing gloves and boxing bag for those who are interesting it getting some home garage workout underway. A boxing bag is great because it takes a lot of effort to push around and helps to harden the hands and build a little muscle. When you have a few weeks/months of punching you can then think about building up those muscles some more. Try getting some dumbbells, especially the screw types that allow you to add and remove weights. Try pumping those dumbbells to build up some muscles. When you are happy that you have developed something then move on to a straight barbell and learn some moves with it. Also getting on an exercise bike for that much needed cardio and considering a change in your diet (try a low-carb diet) is really what it is all about.

The straight barbell is the most popular tool of the bigger weight lifters because it offers such a wide degree of training possibilities. Unlike the EZ (E-Z) Bar that is found in so many gyms ( E-Z is easier to handle than a straight barbell that requires you to have your wrists turned 180 degrees, palms up, compared to the EZ Curl Bar's 135 degree, palms at a 45 degree angle, making it easier to life weights and certainly more comfortable) its use results in a better workout. Sadly with the E-Z bar, comfort does not translate to bigger muscles. Science has proven that a straight barbell is better for bicep training than the EZ. In short, it is a better workout to have those wrists locked at 180 degree turns. Also you can do more types of workout with a straight bar than you can with an EZ curl bar. See bodybuilder.com or exrx.net, or get a good weights/bodybuilding book for information on exercises with a straight barbell versus the EZ. You will find that the straight bar offers lots of variations in the workout. The EZ does not. This is the item you need. You will also need some plate weights (just start with 2 x 10kg set) and collars to keep the plates from slipping off.
