2 out of 5 stars Disappointing product even though the price was very reasonable   August 15, 2008
Disappointed. Wanted to use as a rowing exerciser...resistance was slight, there should be a way of increasing the resistance; also, within several days of receiving...the foam bit near the pedals came off. I wear 7.5 sneakers and they did not fit properly in the stirrups.

2 out of 5 stars A decent price but disappointing product overall   July 10, 2008

This fitness tool was somewhat disappointing. I was looking forward to using it for a rowing workout but the resistance is very slight. I am 5'4, so maybe this piece of gear is intended for taller people. If that's the case, perhaps a choice of sizes should be offered, or at least an indication in the product description of who the target audience is.

After messing around with the rowing exerciser, I was able to figure out a few core moves that work, and was able to do some arm extensions as well. Nothing extremely satisfying.

Basically, this isn't as intuitive a product as one expects. Eventually I gave up trying to wrangle how to use this on my own, and read the included fitness chart suggestions. There are six photographed exercises, all for the abs and core:

1. Rowing (lats)
2. Scooping (abs)
3. Double Leg (obliques)
4. Legs Side to Side (rectus abdominus)
5. Curl Up/Roll Up (rectus abdominus)
6. Boat/Teaser (lower abs)

Each exercise description shows a small black and white photo of each start and end position, with descriptions of how to safely perform the move.

I have the sense this product could be quite nice if the resistance was tight enough to use for actual *rowing*. Some of it's well-thought out: the handles are a thick black comfortable neoprene. The foot straps are a soft, comfortable black and gray. My feet fit nicely in them (I have a woman's size 9 foot) and they feel secure. I don't have the sense the band part will fly back and smack me. However, there is a warning on the chart page about placing your sneakers completely in the stirrups and not just partly. I think this is so your feet don't fall out, rather than a worry about the resistant band flipping back. :)

Overall, this product fails as a rowing exerciser, but can be used for a general, non-impact ab workout tool. This is fine if one is prepared for that and not expecting the cheap, portable equivalent of a real rowing machine.

1 out of 5 stars No resistance at all!   April 1, 2008
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

so i bought this thinking it would be a great alternative to those expensive rowing machines plus i can do it at home. It would help me out with abs and back and i could create new exercises with it. the instruction paper was just that a piece of paper with pictures of different positions you can take. not really any interesting positions.

heres the part that i hate. im 5ft2, 5ft3 on good days. with my feet in the stirrups the handle bars are already up to my stomach. when i try and do the rowing action im not getting any resistance at all. i tried twisting the handle like one reviewer did and still get the same results. so i tried the different positions that came on the piece of paper. same thing. i feel like this thing should be either twice as short or twice as resistant.

either way i had a better work out doing bicycle kicks, flutter kicks and holding my feet about an inch above the ground for 30 seconds. im sure someone who is taller than me, or at least have longer legs would get a better work out.

i was thinking of somehow lodging the stirrups somewhere so i can get that resistance but that would be dangerous and would miss the point.

so if your shorty like me, i wouldnt get this, its too long and his litte resistance!

1 out of 5 stars Not Impressed   January 18, 2008

I just got this rowing action exerciser and I'm not too impressed. It's made out of foam and doesn't feel strong enough to actually do sit ups. And the resistance is very light. Barely feels like a work out. This would probably be perfect for a 10 yr old?

4 out of 5 stars Great!   December 3, 2007

The only reason this got 4 stars is because with some of the exercises, I don't feel as much resistance as I'd like. But, overall, this is a great exercise tool and I love using it. Also, you can have a great time making up your own resistance training exercises--the possibilities are endless. Have fun!
