AWSOME!!! August 30, 2008 The firm is a great work out for the home. It does work all the muscles if you target them correctly. A little hard work and you will see results.

Intense work out video. My cardio is usually walking, treadmill and stationary bike, so I thought this would be a fun way to mix things up while getting the benefit of strength training. As someone who has never taken an aerobics class, I found the pace too quick for a beginner, and the sessions too long. The instructor you should follow for beginner level is rarely in view during each workout. The only result I have obtained is lots of frustration. If your experienced and can pick up easily you will probably love this series.
Effective, motivating workout July 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I enjoy the aerobics and weights classes at my gym more than working out without an instructor. I bought this system because I didn't want to continue to spend on gym classes. The cardio and body sculpt workouts are very similar to my gym workouts, although about 10 minutes shorter. However, they work-- I can feel the difference in my energy levels and strength after about 8 workouts. I have also lost nearly an inch off my waist. I do have some complaints-- the ab workout video isn't very challenging. The warmup is too long and overall, it feels about 2-3 exercises too short. I pause the video in places and do an extra set or two of the exercises. The other two workouts are moderately challenging. All the workouts are enjoyable. The fanny lifter serves its purpose-- I feel comfortable using it. I'd like to find more workouts that use the fanny lifter. Any suggestions?
New to excersize, but surprisingly enjoying it July 6, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've never worked out regularly before, only on an elliptical anyway, and that was with no instruction, and although exhausting... ineffective.
I've been using these videos for over a week, on the recommended calender, which means that i haven't done any but the cardio sculpt yet. I start ab sculpt tomorrow.
I'm not going to say that I've seen a huge difference in a week, but i can say that i feel much better in terms of flexibility (can reach down and touch my toes, even grab my feet which i haven't done in years), and definitely felt it the next day after the first few times. I don't hurt anymore after, but i think I'm just adjusting. I've added weights now, and I can tell its a great workout. I sweat like crazy, and really feel my muscles working, even ones I didn't know I could use (ie: upper back/shoulders and chest sides).
I was scared to start workout videos too. I was afraid it would be humiliating, and patronizing: "you can do it" and all that stuff with bad music and buff sexy smiling women who hardly break a sweat. But Allie is totally tolerable, and the music is really just there to keep you in rhythm and form so you don't need to constantly look up.
The "fanny lifter" is really just a stool, so i toyed with the idea of just using my own, but the height difference really is important, so I'd say at this price, just go ahead and buy the lifter. Its three heights, and it really would be a pain to find three alternate tools. I'm excited to start the next two workouts in this DVD package, and am even starting to look into what FIRM workouts i should buy next.
If I lose a good amount of weight, I'll for sure update this review, although I already gave it full stars, because I have good faith that this is going to work if I stick with it.
Hope that helps!
Old and eh July 6, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
First of all, the DVD format is pretty bad. They make you sit through these advertisements you can't skip unless you fast forward through them, before you get to the actual workout. No chapters. They're also in reverse order on the DVD menu from the box menu, but that's not too bad.
The cardio workout is less cardio than the sculpting one. I really don't see the point of ever doing it. I burned at most 200 calories in an hour. Usually I burn at least 400 when I do aerobics.
The sculpting workout is pretty good. I like the firm's total body toner video better, but you can't do that all the time, and this is an ok addition to that.
The ab part is the best, though I think you could cut out a good 5-10 minutes of it and it would still be as effective. It's a little slow paced, but it probably gives your abs a better workout that most videos I've done.
I like the "fanny lifter" though I think it's a little tall for me (I'm 5', that's kinda a big leap up there) but it does work your legs pretty good. I don't like how they try to incorporate it into the arm and ab exercises. Just so they have an excuse to use it, it gets a little silly and uncomfortable at times (when you're on your stomach).
Really, I don't know why this has such good reviews. There are better exercise videos out there.
