About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

5 out of 5 stars Great product for great price!   October 10, 2008
Purchased this recumbent bike a couple of months ago to help me rehab after breaking my foot. I actually ordered it from Bayou Fitness (a site I highly recommend for fitness related equipment) and shipping was free. I assembled the bike myself in about 30 minutes-if I can do that then anyone can! It is extremely quiet and provides a decent workout for my legs while I'm watching tv. It takes up far less space then my traditional bike that I had propped up on a trainer so I'm very grateful for that. This is an affordable and practical piece of equipment and I'm glad I purcahsed it.

5 out of 5 stars Great workout, easy on the joints!   September 29, 2008
I have degenerative disc disease as well as severe osteoarthritis. Exercising had become too painful and even walking was very difficult. I have always been active and was almost desperate to find a form of exercise that didn`t hurt and cost a bundle. I found the Intone Recumbent Folding Exercise bike and it is wonderful! The angle of the pedals and the supportive seat are exactly what I needed. Now I can get a good cardiovascular workout as well as toning my lower body and abs. I am able to use light free weights while riding for a complete workout. I also read while riding and the time goes by very quickly! I highly recommend this peice of exercise equipment!

5 out of 5 stars Great value for price   August 31, 2008

I bought this bike last November in hopes of stopping the rapid upward crawl of weight gain while recovering from a nasty case of plantar fasciitis. Since walking is by far my favorite form of exercise, I wanted something inexpensive and portable that I could easily move out of the way once my foot recovered enough to use the treadmill again. I also like the semi-recumbent feature--full recumbent bikes hurt my knees and upright ones hurt my back. This one is a nice compromise. It doesn't bother my back at all, and I can ride it for well over an hour before one of my knees starts to balk. It is also small enough that I've been able to relocate it to the living room now that my treadmill is unfolded back to its rightful place. Ironically, I'm probably getting more use out of the bike now as a cross-training machine than I did when I first bought it as a temporary treadmill replacement!

As others have pointed out, the bike is very quiet and a great piece of equipment for turning TV time into active time. I love the fact the distance/time/calorie monitor is cumulative. That makes it very easy to keep track with how much total exercise you've done for those of us who like to split it up into multiple sessions a day.

That said, nothing is perfect. A couple of small improvements would be great:

1. Like others mentioned, the seat post adjustment could use one more hole for us long-legged folks. I'm 5'10", and in order to make the bike more comfortable for my knees, I placed a small throw-pillow on the seat. This has the added benefit of adding more cushion as well, but it would still be nice if the bike came with the proper seat adjustment out of the box.

2. The time continues accumulating for a few seconds after you stop peddling. For us multi-session exercisers, it would be great if the clock stopped immediately with the pedals. Also, the calorie counter seems to be rather "optimistic".

4 out of 5 stars Great bike   August 26, 2008
It's a great little bike, we love how quiet it is. You can actually hear other people talking to you or the tv while you workout. It folds up easily and is easy to move and/or store. The only complaint is that you can't change the resistance very much.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful   August 24, 2008

Well, I have found it to be a wonderful addition to my living room. It hardly takes any space whatsoever and it was extreamly easy to put together. I managed it in less than half an hour with my three year old boy "helping" and the baby running over my toes in her walker. My only suggestion is to buy the mat to put it on if you have hard floors like I do just to keep from accidently scratching them up. It is really quiet too I can get on it without having to change the volume of the television at all. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
