Amazon.com Product Description
World-renowned fitness expert Billy Blanks comes through again with his Tae Bo Amped series, which combines short, intense "cardio bursts" with signature Tae Bo moves for maximum benefits and optimum results. Each of these high-powered, high-energy workouts--the bundle comes with five heart-pounding, full-length DVDs--will help you attain a toned and sculpted body, strengthen your core, burn fat, and increase your overall fitness level for a total body workout. Longtime fans of Tae Bo and newcomers alike will experience a workout unlike any other, with Billy providing the inspiration and motivation to work hard. And to assist you during your workouts, Amped comes with Billy Blank's Amplifier sculpting bar, which adds muscle-shaping resistance to all of Billy's Amped workouts for greater cardio intensity and targeted muscle toning for your lower-body problem areas. Other items in the Amped bundle include a Billy Blanks weight-loss guidebook and a seven-day energy formula.

The kit comes with the following DVDs:

  • Jump Start Cardio: Energizes your body and helps fight fat and flab for high-speed total-body slimming (approximately 41 minutes)
  • Fat Burn Accelerator: Pushes the cardio-conditioning pedal to the metal to take you where you want to be--firm, toned, and looking and feeling great. The DVD features all-new, super-intense cardio moves that maximize the calories you burn per minute (approximately 52 minutes)
  • Full Throttle: Attacks fat with incredibly intense cardio and explosive muscle-toning exercises (approximately 55 minutes)
  • Core Express: An intense 30-minute workout created to target all the problem areas we have. You'll tighten and tone your abs, firm and lift your buns, and do it all in record time (approximately 31 minutes)
  • Live in LA: Puts you at center stage as Billy trims and tones you to the core, blasts fat, and lifts you to new heights. You'll enjoy a front-row seat with Billy and 300 Tae Bo fans and followers as they work out at the world-famous Hollywood Palladium (approximately 43 minutes)

5 out of 5 stars Getting Amped   September 2, 2008
My product arrived within the stated time and was in excellent condition. As a first time user the workout pushed me to the limit but I loved every sweaty minute of it! Would recommend to any one wanting a good fun workout.

4 out of 5 stars Love Billy Blanks!   August 25, 2008
This is a great set- although the bar is lightweight, it really adds to the workout DVD's. As usual, Billy Blanks is a bit goofy and you want to laugh at him, but most of these DVD's kick your butt! I was sore after all of them but the free one they give you- "Live in L.A"., which was a workout performed in front of a huge group of people. It was quite disorganized, and I felt it was a waste of my time, but the other DVD's make up for it. My only complaint- I had to send this set back twice- once because the bar broke (don't ask me how a 3 pound weighted bar broke- I am not a brute, but it broke) then when they sent me the replacement, the DVD's were damaged and skipped midway through my workouts. Very annoying. Amazon.com gave me a really hard time on the second return, but neither was my fault, and I was very annoyed with them. I was even accused of damaging the discs myself, which was impossible, because I only had them for a couple of days and have a pretty new DVD player. That's besides the point- Billy Blanks is funny but tough, and I will continue to buy his DVD's.

4 out of 5 stars This review is mostly about the AMPED bar   August 25, 2008
I enjoyed the workout DVD's very well, if you can get over (as others have stated) Billy's inability to keep an accurate count on the reps then it is no problem, and at times humorous. For example there are times when he says one last set yet continues 3 or 4 more sets, there is another time where he tells everybody that's enough, but then leads them on another set of jumping jacks that completely looses his group. If you can get over these minor quibbles they will get you sweat flowing.

On to the AMPED bar. Initially I thought it was pretty cool even if it was a little light weight. However, as I got into the workouts I noticed that it began to feel like it was going to come apart, and eventually (after about 2 months of using it) would not remain locked open. Also on one of his exercises he tells you to swing it like a baseball bat, I do not advise doing this routine, or at least 'choke up' on the AMP bar to prevent from damaging it, I do not think it is sturdy enough for this kind of use.

Eventually I decided to make my own "AMPED" bar, and though I do not suggest anybody else do this (since our nation is plagued with lawyers and I do not want to be sued) I went to Home Depot, and bought a 36" threaded (at both ends) steel pipe. I also purchased two caps to place on the threaded ends as a little more weight. This pipe obviously does not telescope in on its self but weighs approximately 5LBS where Billys weighs aprox 3LBS. The use of the threaded pipe with the end caps is that you can in the future fill the inside of your pipe with either sand or I suppose liquid to increase the weight of the bar. I suppose you could even get some lead and melt it into the center of the pipe, once again see my comment above about lawyers, I do not suggest ever using lead which is easily found on another Home Depot shelf (though they will tell you they don't sell it). It is disguised as one of those pipes that sticks out of your roof that the squirrel's continually chew to sharpen their teeth. All said and done the cost of a steel pipe with 2 screw on ends will run you about $15, and I am currently looking for something to wrap the ends of the pipe in to soften where I grip the pipe (i am thinking tennis racket wraps). Note: though you could use the pipe without the ends and lighten it by I would guess 1/2 a lbs, the caps add a little lip that could possibly prevent you from dropping or launching a pipe across your living room or apartment floor.

Now what I did with Billy Bar was collapsed the bar (since I could not figure out how to open it and tighten it where it had become loose) and roll back the foam handels, I then took some electric tape and taped the 2 ends together in the center where they join when collapsed, and rolled the foam back over the center line. This allows me to use the Billy Bar when billy does an exercise, and I switch to my "Jimmy Pipe" TM (just kidding) for the exercises where he opens the Billy Bar.

Once again I cannot stress enough that you do not follow my lead and make your own. I cannot be held responsible for your homemade pipe being launched through your sliding glass window or flat panel television quite simply because I am very poor and have no money.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun   July 22, 2008
Have not gotten to use this product a lot so far but the little that I have I know the whole set is going to be super energizing for me. I especially like that you are encouraged to work at your own pace. Plus I do not feel like I have to be a dancer to be able to follow along like on some other exercise videos that I have used.

2 out of 5 stars Good for a little while   July 19, 2008

I have had a few different Tae Bo workouts and this one has been my least favorite. I've had it for about 4 months and my amplifier bar has already broken. The cheap plastic broke and a metal bar came flying out! Another thing I didn't like is that there are very few kicks in the workout. It kept me entertained for a little while but I wouldn't recommend it.
