Sofwtare needs time to mature January 3, 2009 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Pulse is a nice piece of hardware, but the software let me down. On Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) and Windows Vista SP1 (32 bit), the software failed to transfer files from the pen to the LiveScribe Desktop. A message on the LiveScribe website forum referred me to customer support and they confirmed it was a known issue, but they are working on a fix. On my Mac, transfering files worked fine, but there is no way to delete old notes. I think this product shows a lot of promise (the pen itself worked very well), but the software needs time to mature. I'd advise being patient and waiting a year after the OS on your computer is released to give the LiveScribe developers time to debug the software.
great pen... too much money for real use December 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just bought this pen as I have problems typing for long periods of time. I am currently writing stories and is a great way to write on the go. It works just as it says. Though, if you want to convert it to typed text, you have to buy a seperate program for it. For an additional 30 bucks. The text conversion was the main purpose for getting this pen, I was greatly dissapointed. I was hoping for a larger variety of dot paper. A smaller spiral bound notebook would have been nice. But all in all it is a great product. There is no volume control on the pen for playback. If you dont need these extra pieces it is a valuble tool.
Livescribe December 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great product. It does everything it advertises and more. I gave the pen as a gift, and he uses it all the time for his classes--and just for fun. It is really easy to use. If you are someone who takes notes regularly, the Livescribe is a perfect product for you.
I LOVE This Pen! December 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I an a secretary and often record meeting minutes. This wonderful tool has made that job a million times easier. The only bad thing I can say is that the software that allows you to turn your hand written notes into editable text that can be exported is an add on that costs an additional $29.95 and is available on the LiveScribe web site. Without this piece, this tool would be more or less useless to me as I would not distribute my handwritten notes as official minutes. Therefore, I would wind up transcribing my notes, which I could just as easily do from a regular notebook without the smart pen. Otherwise, if you're taking notes that you want to save to your PC and email or otherwise share with others and you and they don't care that they're hand written, this pen is awesome!
Great product, expensive shipping to Europe November 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like already mentioned in other reviews, the pen works remarkably well. The only thing that I like less is the relatively high pressure that I need to apply to make the pen register what I write.
On the positive side the PC SW, which needs to have at least twice as much features to make it really useful, manages to find a search word in my written text. Sometimes I hardly can read my own handwriting, so this is remarkable.
Major drawback were shipping and customs fees to Europe, almost doubling the price. If had not really, really, really wanted the pen, this surely would have stopped me from buying. And at the time of ordering, Amazon did ship the spiral notebooks to Europe but not the journals, pity.
