Amazon.com Product Description This classic, analog compass provides all the information that got explorers around perfectly well for hundreds of years, in a snappy, optic green package. It features 2-degree graduations (the series of degree markings on the azimuth ring used for taking bearings) and adjustable declination (the difference in degrees between magnetic north--the direction the magnetic needle on a compass points--and true or geographical north, which is the direction maps are printed toward. It also features 0-35 degree inclination scale (the distance between two points on a map as they relate to the distance between those two points on the earth) and displays this in both inches and millimeters.

Excellent compass, and a good value January 4, 2009 Excellent basic compass that has every necessary feature. It does not have a sighting mirror, so if you feel that is a requirement, look elsewhere. Very steady needle, declination adjusment, and a greenish base, which you may appreciate if you drop it in the woods. As another reviewer noted, the base is symetrical, but it does have a pointing arrow -- so you shouldn't really have a problem with pointing it the correct direction. If there was one thing I would change, though, it would be to have the 'direction of travel' arrow side of the base longer.
Terrific price, too. It would be pretty cheap to buy a spare.
Everyone should have one December 3, 2008 What can you say, a good basic compass. Seems to be made pretty well and it points north! Tally-Ho!
Brunton Classic Compass October 30, 2008 Great Value. I got these for my 11 Year old Scouts. It's perfect for what we're doing, beginning orienteering. If you need something more advanced this may not be the stable platform for you. But for beginning Boy Scouts. They eat up this compass. A rock solid beginner compass.
compass October 10, 2008 Basic compass but has all the markings needed. Works as promised. Happy with purchase.
Good Beginner Compass June 23, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This `easy-to-read' compass is perfect for map and compass orienteering. It has a tool free adjustable declination for easy navigating and gives you graduations in degrees. The scale is in both inches and millimeters and the clear plastic makes for easy use on any map. Unfortunately, there is no site-mirror, which makes for a more accurate reading. It's small size and price (under $10!) makes for a simple, efficient compass when backpacking or hiking. It's a good beginner compass, but remember that you get what you pay for. For a little more money you can get a nice "Lensatic" military compass with a sighting-arm.
