Amazon.com Product Description
Cycling improves your cardiovascular health, boosts the functioning of the heart and blood vessels, and decreases your risk of heart disease. Now you can enjoy all the benefits of cycling without spending a ton of money with the affordable InStride cycle from Stamina Products. Unlike most exercise bikes, the InStride cycle doesn't come with a seat. Instead, you sit in a standard dining room chair or lie on the floor, then insert your feet into the sturdy rubber straps. Once you're in, you can pedal in forward or reverse motion, with an adjustable tension knob that lets you vary your workout intensity. As an alternative, you can even rest the InStride on a table and pedal with your hands to experience a full-range upper body workout.

Improving your cardiovascular health isn't the only benefit of cycling, of course. It also increases HDL (good cholesterol), reduces the amount of triglycerides in the blood, and helps lower blood pressure. And thanks to the dual-use pedals, you can improve your muscle strength in your legs, arms, shoulders, and back, depending on the configuration you choose. Other cycling benefits include increased flexibility without stressing the joints, improved digestion, better lung function, and a higher metabolism.

The InStride cycle, which boasts a sturdy 1-inch tubular steel frame, measures 20.75 by 12.5 by 15.75 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 5.2 pounds.

4 out of 5 stars Physical Therapist Recommended .....   September 8, 2008

My mother is a diabetic, has Parkinson's disease and lives in a nursing home. The Nursing Home Physical Therapists use the stride cycle and ones like it with the patients to exercise their lower and upper body. Also, the PTs at the local hospital use it for therapy. It really is ideal for the elderly, disabled, or just for moving while sitting in front of the TV.
My Aunt is 80 and is also a diabetic. She can't afford a professional piece of exercise equipment. For safety reasons, she can't go out and walk by herself. Her home health PT recommended she use a stride cycle.

The stride cycles might not be for everyone but they are very good for certain people. There is a clear warning on the cycle that clearly states that it does get hot after use.

2 out of 5 stars Good idea, poor execution   June 5, 2008
For exercising your arms, the InStride Cycle isn't bad, but it's difficult to use it as a "bike" because not only is it difficult to stabilize, but the motion is quite jerky, which hurts my knees too much for this to be of any use to me. I'll keep it because I can get $25 worth of arm exercise out of it, but I can't recommend it if you're hoping to use it as a bike.

1 out of 5 stars ouch   May 21, 2008

The cycling motion actually heats up the whole unit.. so much so I had burns on my legs when I accidently brushed against it upon 'dismount'. I had to get rid of it. Maybe if you used it at a lower pace it would be ok, but just forget about using the resistance unless you want to fry eggs on it.

I use this everyday for about 45 minutes. I feel better and have more energy, so it must be doing something right. After use it is hot to touch the metal so make sure little fingers don't try to touch it. Also it is light weight so you may need extra weights put on the base to keep it level.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money   March 22, 2008

Don't waste your money, this piece of garbage is not worth two cents. I got put it together and put my foot on it and it broke. it was a waste of my time and money. I suggest you spend a lot more money and get one that is pre assembled and of a quality brand name.
